The AI-picked £100m XI
ONSIDE AI · MODEL v5 · 12 PAST WC + 8 PL SEASONS TRAINING
Model rates them above consensus on AI projection at this price point. England's round of 16 fixture profile, Bayern Munich club form and post-MD1 form-weighted shrinkage drive the edge.

Captain Harry Kane
“Harry Kane clears every other captain candidate on AI projection (8.5) at this price point (£12.0m). England's round of 16 fixture profile, Bayern Munich club form and Path B form-weighted shrinkage (re-weighted after MD1 actuals) push the model to rate them above the consensus.”

The four levers behind the AI's £100m squad
Squad sorted by projected points per 90, not value-per-pound. That puts marquee names (Haaland, Mbappé, Saka, Bellingham) at the top of the queue — the engine fills the cheap slots second.
Each player's xP is then nudged by the next matchup. Easier fixtures get a boost; harder ones drop — and post-MD1 actuals re-weight individual form. So England's star gets bumped above a mid-fixture peer when the model says so.
Hard constraints enforced: total spend ≤ £99.5m, never more than 3 from one country. A second pass fills any under-quota position with the cheapest available option.
Harry Kane at 8.5 AI proj vs Panama is the highest projection in the squad — the model's lock-it-in armband.
Why the AI picked these 11
Each card shows the player's photo, kit-coloured halo, projected xP per match, AI confidence, and a one-line rationale from the model. Onside doesn't guess — every pick is reasoned.
“6.1 AI proj vs Norway away — a soft matchup. France are a top-8 FIFA seed; shot-stopping + clean-sheet ceiling. mid-priced (£9.0m) — strong value.”— Onside AI model v5

The optimiser rules, in plain English
- £100m budget cap. FIFA's rule — every WC Fantasy squad starts at £100m. Our optimiser can't spend more.
- Max 3 players per nation. Avoids over-exposure to any one country exit-risk in the group stage.
- 11 players: 1 GK, 4 DEF, 4 MID, 2 FWD (default). The optimiser flexes within FIFA's formation rules to maximise xP.
- Greedy by xP-per-£. Picks the highest projected return per pound spent, then enforces the nation + position caps as it goes.
- Refresh cadence: hourly. Pre-tournament: pure model projection. Mid-tournament: actual minutes + goals layered in.
Common best XI questions
Schema-marked so Google can surface them as a rich result.
What's the best possible World Cup Fantasy XI for 2026?›
The Onside model's best 11 within FIFA Fantasy's £100m budget: a balanced 3-4-3 with premium attackers + cheap-but-starting defenders. The exact lineup refreshes hourly as model probabilities shift — full live board below. Pre-tournament defaults: Donnarumma (Italy GK), Saliba/Van Dijk/Tchouameni-type defender mix, Bellingham/Mbappé/Yamal-type midfield premiums, Kane/Lautaro/Haaland-style strikers.
How is the best XI chosen?›
Three constraints, optimised: (1) within FIFA's £100m budget; (2) max 3 players per nation; (3) maximum total projected xP across the next matchday. The model picks the squad that scores most points given those rules. The form-aware Path B engine refreshes the projection hourly using MD1+ event-timeline data.
Can I copy this XI directly into FIFA Fantasy?›
Yes — the player names and clubs match FIFA's official squad lists. Once the FIFA Fantasy game opens its 2026 season (early June), you can paste this XI directly. Onside is not affiliated with FIFA; we publish the picks, you make the moves in the FIFA app.
Why are there sometimes more attackers than the standard formation?›
FIFA WC Fantasy allows formation flexibility per matchday. The "best XI" is the highest-projected 11 — sometimes that's 3-4-3, sometimes 3-5-2 or 4-3-3. The displayed formation reflects the highest-xP combination given the constraints.
